California’s Power Outage Tracker Shows 68000 People Without Power

After almost 110,000 people went without power on Wednesday morning due to high winds and winter storms, thousands more Californians are now getting their power back.

According to the USA TODAY Network’s power outage database as of 3:30 p.m. PT, most of the outages have been in Northern and Central California, with San Mateo County, just south of San Francisco, having over 30,000 people without power.

Almost 10,000 customers in nearby Santa Cruz County are without electricity, while over 6,000 people are without power in Santa Clara County.

According to the National Weather Service Bay Area, Wednesday will bring gusty gusts, sporadic showers of rain, snow at higher elevations, and a chance of thunderstorms. On Twitter, the Santa Rosa Fire Department in Sonoma County stated several instances of downed power lines, trees in cars, and power outages.

The Pacific Gas and Electric Company warned customers to be ready in case trees or other debris fall into powerlines on Tuesday and announced that it will be mobilizing staff before the storm.

According to the outage tracking website PowerOutage.us, over 68,000 customers in California are without power as of 3:30 p.m. PT. According to PG&E, around 167,000 customers were without power on Tuesday night.

At 2:30 pm, PG&E reported that 42,674 Bay Area customers were without power.

When will the electricity return?

The NWS stated on Tuesday that power disruptions “may continue longer than a day” due to their extensive effects.

Since storms are “extremely fluid circumstances,” according to PG&E, it is impossible to predict when electricity will be restored based on the company’s outage map.

Yet according to the firm, 97% of the affected consumers had their power back within 12 hours.
