American crime drama CSI: Vegas had its broadcast debut on CBS on October 6, 2021. It is the fifth installment in the CSI franchise and a spinoff of the venerable CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. William Petersen, Jorja Fox, and Marg Helgenberger all reprise their CSI: Crime Scene Investigation roles in the first season as Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle and Catherine Willows, respectively. New characters are portrayed by Paula Newsome, Matt Lauria, Mel Rodriguez, and Mandeep Dhillon.
Further reprising their roles as David Hodges, Jim Brass, and Greg Sanders as guests are Wallace Langham, Paul Guilfoyle, and Eric Szmanda. It was first advertised as an epilogue limited series, but in December 2021 it was given a second-season renewal without Fox, Petersen, or Rodriguez. Ten episodes made up the first season.
On September 29, 2022, the first episode of the second season, which had 21 episodes, aired. On February 21, 2023, CBS announced that CSI: Vegas would return for a third season, which would air during the television season of 2023–2024.
CSI Vegas Cast
The original CSI starred Laurence Fishburne and Ted Danson, while CSI: Miami starred David Caruso, CSI: NY had Gary Sinise, and CSI: Cyber starred Patricia Arquette. Long-time CSI viewers will recognize the famous faces on the cast of CSI: Vegas.
William Petersen (Gil Grissom)
The stern Gil Grissom, who oversaw the night shift in the original series, is back in action as William Petersen. For the part, Petersen received one Golden Globe nomination, four Screen Actors Guild Award nominations, and one win. As an executive producer, he was also a finalist for three Primetime Emmy Awards.
Except for his role as Col. Emmett Darrow in Manhattan, Petersen didn’t do much acting after CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The return of Gil Grissom to television is intriguing because fans are eager to learn what the character has been up to.
Jorja Fox (Sara Sidle)
Putting the gang back together without Sara Sidle is difficult to conceive. Luckily heavens we don’t have to since Jorja Fox is returning to the Las Vegas Crime Lab to reprise the role for which she received four SAG Award nominations and one win. Before her portrayal as Sara Sidle, viewers were more familiar with Fox from her roles as Dr. Maggie Doyle on NBC’s ER and Gina Toscano in The West Wing.
Fox has acted in two Amazon Original films since the original CSI series ended: The Map of Small Perfect Things and the science fiction film 3022, both of which he co-starred in alongside Omar Epps and Kate Walsh.
Wallace Langham (David Hodges)
Wallace Langham kept himself fairly busy after his initial stint as the caustic lab technician David Hodges, taking on several film roles, including Gordon Caplan in the contentious Operation Varsity Blues: The College Admissions Scandal documentary on Netflix and Dr. Granger in Ford v. Ferrari.

The Little Miss Sunshine actor, who rose to fame on The Larry Sanders Show’s Phil before joining CSI, has made several guest appearances on TV shows over the past six years, including Grey’s Anatomy, Criminal Minds, Mom, 9-1-1, The Boys, and The Resident.
Paul Guilfoyle (Jim Brass)
As homicide detective Jim Brass, Paul Guilfoyle is back, but unlike the other actors from the original series, Guilfoyle has a planned two-episode arc on CSI: Vegas. What we can get, we’ll take it! Guilfoyle has appeared in a few guest roles on TV shows since 2015, including Star Trek: Discovery, The Morning Show, A Million Little Things, and A Million Little Things, where he played Delilah’s father.
He appeared for a longer period in Colony in 2016 as Quayle and in the CBS All Access courtroom drama The Good Fight as Henry Rindell.
Paula Newsome (Maxine Roby)
Toward the “new.” Paula Newsome will be joining CSI: Vegas as Maxine Roby, the head of the Las Vegas Crime Lab and a former basketball coach. For her part as Detective Moss in HBO’s Barry, Newsome is well known. She may also be recognized by fans as Carolina Charles from Chicago Med or her appearances as a guest star in other well-known CBS series like NCIS and Criminal Minds.
A young Macaulay Culkin needed her to help to find fabric softener, and it’s interesting (to me, at least) that Newsome also had an uncredited role in Home Alone.
Matt Lauria (Josh Folsom)
Josh Folsom, a Level III CSI who frequently acts as the lead investigator, is being introduced to viewers for the first time, but oddly enough, Matt Lauria has been to Vegas before. In Season 12, he played Agent Matthew Pratt in three episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
The New York Times posted a tweed on CSI Vegas which is given below-
He played dead on TikTok every day for nearly a year, hoping to be cast in a TV show or movie as a corpse. Then "CSI: Vegas" reached out. https://t.co/tbLlSwDutG

Although there is no indication that the two characters are related, it is extremely uncommon for one actor to take on distinct parts in two series that are situated in the same universe. In addition to his work on CSI, Lauria is best recognized for his appearances as Luke Cafferty in Friday Night Lights and Ryan York in NBC’s Parenthood. Vegas always!
Mel Rodriguez (Hugo Ramirez)
Hugo Ramirez, head medical examiner on CSI: Vegas, will be portrayed by Mel Rodriguez, best known for his roles as Todd Rodriguez on Fox’s The Last Man on Earth and Patsy de la Serda on HBO’s Getting On.

Other notable roles for Rodriguez include a voice part in Disney’s Onward, the Showtime miniseries On Becoming a God in Central Florida’s Ernie Gomes, and a recurring appearance as Jimmy McGill’s scamming accomplice Marco Pasternak on Better Call Saul. He was a guest star on an episode of The Twilight Zone reboot, therefore he has connections to CBS.
Mandeep Dhillon (Allie Rajan)
Allie Rajan, a Level II CSI who immigrated to Las Vegas to pursue her ambitions as an immigrant, is played by British actress Mandeep Dhillon, who completes the primary cast of CSI: Vegas. Dhillon joined the cast of the Netflix series After Life as Sandy after collaborating with Ricky Gervais on David Brent: Life on the Road. Moreover, in Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rising of Skywalker, she portrayed Lieutenant Garan.
