A teacher from Des Plaines has been accused of violence in relation to a number of instances that happened between December 2022 and January 2023.
Lai Ying T. Escobedo, 44, of Palatine, has reportedly been charged with four counts of violence, according to police.
Police claimed that on January 11, District 62 officials were informed of the incidents. The teacher allegedly engaged in physical contact with a 7-year-old boy, two 7-year-old girls, and an 8-year-old girl, according to the police investigation.

Escobedo was charged with “pulling their ears, hitting them in the head with a closed fist or folder, and shoving their heads towards the tables they sit at,” according to the kids. The students didn’t sustain any major wounds.

Police said that Escobedo had been “removed from her duties” the following day.

Des Plaines Community Consolidated School District 62 Superintendent Michael Amadei said, It is a family in our district, and it does sadden me. It was unexpected because Ms. Escobedo’s had no prior reports of any mishaps or concerns.
On April 3 at 9 a.m., Escobedo will show up in court at the Skokie Courthouse.
