On January 6, 2023, RuPaul’s Drag Race’s sixteenth season debuted. Instead of airing on VH1 in the US, the reality competition series switched to MTV.
With sixteen queens competing, this season has the most contestants in the show’s history and the biggest financial reward, with the winner taking home $200,000. Additionally, Sugar and Spice, the show’s twin biological relatives, make their season debut. Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, and Ross Mathews—the series judges—returned, while Ts Madison, a prior recurrent guest judge, joined the panel of judges.
Sasha Colby won the season, becoming the fifth transgender participant overall and the second to win the main RuPaul’s Drag Race series. Anetra served as the season’s runner-up. Malaysia Babydoll Foxx was named Miss Congeniality.
Did The Right Queen Take Away The Crown In Drag Race Finale Season 15?
The RuPaul’s Drag Race season finale took place on 14 April, 2023 Friday, bringing to a close another season of drag delusion, manufactured jokes, and having fun.
In a series of fierce lip-syncs, the final four queens of Season 15—Aneta, Mistress Isabelle Brooks, Luxx Noir London, and Sasha Colby—walked their f-ing ducks one last time, leaving no trace on the stage.
However, it would be a lie to suggest that after the 90-minute climax, it was still anyone’s game. Regardless of how skilled Mistress and Luxx are, they are both incredibly talented!— The obvious front-runners were always Anetra and Sasha. They not only took home the most victories this season, but their lip-syncing is also outstanding. I stopped attempting to decide between these two last month, formally declaring my desire for a Sasha-Anetra tie.
So, did the drag gods grant me a shared win in response to my prayer? Let’s investigate:
Individual performances from each of the four finalists opened the finale. Anetra began with a physically demanding performance that supposedly needed to be rewritten owing to its difficulty, and Luxx followed with a stylish number.
Mistress then gave a song on, you guessed it, drag delusion while dressed as a seductive nurse. The branding queen! And Sasha got on its feet with “Goddess,” a hair-raising performance that transformed the front runner into a snake.
Luxx Noir London and Mistress Isabelle had to go because it was later revealed that only two queens could advance to the next stage of the finals.
It was reveal after reveal for Sasha. She started the fight in a comically oversized puffer jacket, changed into a sparkling evening gown, then removed the gown to reveal her infamous body-ody-ody. It was very breathtaking to see Sasha moving her hair in that exquisite burlesque-inspired outfit.
Additionally, Anetra displayed her typical repertoire of skills, which included yanking her heart out of her body (suit) during an intense emotional moment.
