Lizzo Faces Allegations of Harassment from Former Dancers

Three of Lizzo’s former dancers have filed a lawsuit against the Grammy winner, alleging that they were harassed and forced to work in an unsafe atmosphere during their time with Lizzo’s dance troupe.

Besides her, her production company Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. (BGBT) and someone called a “dance cast captain” are named as defendants in the complaint filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday.

One of the three plaintiffs claims that the singer pushed them to “take turns touching the n*de performers” at a club in Amsterdam’s Red Light District in February when the singer was on tour. According to the complaint, the plaintiff “acquiesced” to the performers’ demands for physical contact out of fear of retaliation.

A second plaintiff alleges that the singer made her feel uncomfortable by raising “thinly veiled” concerns about her “weight gain,” leading her to feel like she needed to “explain her weight gain and disclose intimate personal details about her life in order to keep her job.”

An accountant from BGBT’s primarily White management team is accused of discriminating against the Black dancers by scolding them for “unacceptable and disrespectful” behaviour while on tour, among other allegations of racial and religious discrimination made throughout the complaint.

The complaint states that the accountant’s remark was “charged with racial and fat-phobic animus.”
