A Look at Kelly McGaughey’s Journey of Love and Service
Kelly touched many lives with her infectious smile, her abundant love, and her giving nature. Her family, friends, and the larger community will never forget her warmth and kindness.
Kelly was born in Fort Lewis, Washington, on March 18, 1985, into the family of James and Kathryn McGaughey. Over a fourteen-year span, Kelly’s military family had nine migrations between the United States and Germany, which formed her appreciation and respect for sacrifice and duty.
After graduating from Woodbridge Senior High School in 2003, she went on to get a diploma in Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exercise from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 2007. Kelly graduated from Shenandoah University with a doctorate in physical therapy in 2010.
During her physical therapy internships, Kelly worked for two months at the Quantico Officers Candidate School, three and a half months at the Landstuhl Hospital in Germany, and the same amount of time at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.
After graduating, Kelly began to make a significant impact. She spent seven years at the Military Advanced Training Center at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) and later at Walter Reed National Medical Center, where she worked as a physical therapist and as the coordinator of clinical instruction.
Following their initial encounter in 2015 at Walter Reed National Medical Center, Kelly wed Chris Roseberry in 2017. Kelly started as the director of programs at the Travis Mills Foundation in 2017.
Her participation in a number of NGOs that support veterans, her adaption of sports, and her personal and professional experiences have all helped the Travis Mills Foundation expand. Her husband Chris served in the US Army for 21 years before retiring as a First Sergeant.
Kelly also worked as an adjunct instructor at Shenandoah University, the University of New England, and the University of Southern Maine, where she taught occupational therapy and physical therapy courses. She was a volunteer PT/Amputee Specialist at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
Kelly also enjoys her roles as an adaptive ski instructor and the director of the yearly Amputee Kids Ski Camp. She enjoyed skiing, taking family vacations through Maine, and watching Virginia Tech football.
