As per Distractify: Earlier in February 2019, Paul Murdaugh was involved in a horrific boat disaster that claimed the life of 19-year-old Mallory Beach.
Paul was charged with boating under the influence causing death and two charges of boating under the influence causing serious bodily harm months after the collision.
But two years later, Paul and his mother, Maggie Murdaugh, were killed; his father is now under investigation for the crime.

After Paul passed away, the South Carolina attorney general’s office dropped all charges against him but continued to release images of the boat catastrophe.

Extreme external damage to Paul’s 17-foot Sea Hunt Triton can be seen in images that WJCL was able to obtain. Additional images display beer coolers full of beer and empty beer cans inside the boat, along with what seems to be blood smeared there.

Mallory Beach was thrown overboard on the night of February 24, 2019, when the boat crashed into a piling close to Parris Island. After a week, her body was discovered.
On the boat with her, her boyfriend Anthony Cook sued Alex Murdaugh for his son’s behavior that evening.

On Paul Murdaugh’s boat that fateful evening, Anthony and Mallory went with Paul and his then-girlfriend Morgan Doughty, Anthony’s cousin Connor Cook, and his girlfriend Miley Altman.

Paul was described by Anthony as being “outta his mind intoxicated” in the Netflix series Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal. He continued by saying that Paul did despite his friends’ advice not to operate the boat.

Anthony said, “I heard a scream, and then I was out. When he regained consciousness, he discovered Mallory was nowhere to be found.”
According to WSAV, Anthony filed a civil complaint in 2021 against Alex Murdaugh, the convenience shop where Paul bought the booze, and the salesperson.
