Similar to The Forest, this follow-up will put a strong emphasis on cooking, crafting, and combat, the latter of which has been greatly expanded to include more weapon varieties. Sons of the Forest will have a melee emphasis because guns will be more common but the ammunition will be scarce.

The Sons of the Forest map is partly modeled on the Site 2 map that you might have caught a glimpse of at the conclusion of The Forest and will be around four times as big.
