Fans of “American Idol” were shocked on Monday 17 April 2023 night when host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Paige Anne, who the judges had previously eliminated, was now back in the competition.
Despite naming the participant, Seacrest claimed that someone had left. Fans couldn’t help but wonder who the mysterious competitor was who dropped out, despite the judges realizing after Anne’s performance of “Wrecking Ball” on Monday night that she still belonged in the competition.
Who Left ‘American Idol’ In 2023?
The participant, vocalist Beckett Rex, was 19, according to E! Online. Rex, the son of actor Malcolm McDowell, wrote in an Instagram story, “To all of you wondering, yes I was on @americanidol and I made the top 26,” according to E! Online.
I won’t disclose why I chose not to participate in the tournament, but I will say that it was my decision. I will always remember the event with the sincerest love and affection. I am eternally grateful to my ‘American Idol family.
Rex didn’t have any appearances on “American Idol,” according to Entertainment Tonight. According to the entertainment website Just Jared, this would mean that Rex decided to withdraw from the competition before the season began showing, enabling the producers to cut out his performances. However, according to Just Jared, Rex can be seen in a group photo that was taken immediately following the show’s announcement of the top 26 competitors.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Rex recently released “Wildfire,” his third single.
Rex isn’t the first competitor to withdraw from this season. The Deseret News said that Sara Beth Liebe, whose audition attracted a lot of attention, left the show to spend more time with her three children.
Liebe informed the show’s judges during Hollywood Week that this would be her final performance. Liebe said, “This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually going to be my last performance.” “My heart is at home, so I’m going to go get my kids,” she said. They could use me.
The daughter of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, contestant Kaya Stewart, also withdrew from the competition this season after being ill during Hollywood week, according to Entertainment Weekly.
Who Else Has Dropped Out Of ‘American Idol’?
It happens fairly frequently for an “American Idol” candidate to leave. Kenedi Anderson, who was thought to be a front-runner, abruptly departed the tournament last year.
When Anderson was eliminated from the competition, “Idol” judge Lionel Richie said to USA Today, “We were heartbroken,” adding that Anderson’s potential “was unbelievable.”
According to Deseret News, Anderson did not give a specific reason for leaving “American Idol,” only that it was “necessary” and one of the hardest decisions she has ever had to make.
Wyatt Pike, a Utah singer-songwriter who placed in the top 12 in the previous year’s competition, dropped out.
Pike admitted to the Park Record in 2017 that competition music on reality TV, I learned, is not my thing. Even though I gained and learned a lot from it, the stress and hassles that came with it simply got too much.
