Tennessee’s MEMPHIS — 92-year-old leader in the Memphis community s quietly died on March, 20.
Ron Terry is most well-known for expanding Memphis’ First Tennessee Bank—now First Horizon—to the entire state. He joined the bank in 1957 and rose to the positions of CEO and Chairman in 1973.
He also gained widespread recognition for his knowledge of the banking sector, even engaging President Ronald Reagan in conversation about it in 1982.
Terry was reportedly sought after in the national banking industry, yet he always found time to support local businesses, civic organizations, and philanthropic endeavors.

The funeral will take place after the visitation on Friday, March 10, 2023, at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue.
The 35-year-old wife of Terry, their three daughters, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild all survive him.
